Michigan House Republicans on Tuesday elected state Rep. Mike Harris to serve as caucus whip.

Harris, R-Waterford, was promoted to the position after serving as chief deputy whip.

“House Republicans are hard at work on behalf of the people of Michigan,” Harris said. “It’s a privilege to help lead critical efforts to make life better, safer, and more affordable for Michigan families. I’m humbled by my colleagues’ continued trust in me — and grateful for the opportunity to serve.”

As whip, Harris will keep colleagues up to date about important issues and decisions coming up in the Michigan House of Representatives. He will also serve as a liaison between the caucus leadership team and other representatives, tracking votes and assisting legislators with policy-related questions.

Harris represents the 52nd House District, which includes the cities of Lake Angelus and Clarkston, Independence Township, and portions of Springfield and Waterford townships.
