State Rep. Alicia St. Germaine (R-Harrison Township) introduced legislation to officially recognize Harrison Township as “Boat Town USA,” to highlight the state’s connection to Michigan’s boating culture and waterfront lifestyle.
“Michigan has state symbols for so many things, so why not boats?” said St. Germaine. “Boating is big business in Michigan, having nearly 12 billion impacts on state’s economy. As the Great Lakes State, water is part of our identity and culture. This designation honors not just our boaters, but everyone who enjoys life on the water—fishermen, jet skiers, sailors, and more.”
House Bill 4010 moved through the House today and now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
“Lake St. Clair is the heart of recreational boating in Michigan, and Harrison Township has long been at the center of it all,” said St. Germaine. “Even Google recognizes it as ‘Boat Town USA.’ Making it official would give the community a unique distinction as the only Boat Town USA in the world. This is a celebration of our local pride and way of life on the water.”
