State Rep. Mike Harris today invited residents of north-central Oakland County to attend his community office hours on Monday, May 15.
The community event will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Business Center at the Independence Township Library, 6495 Clarkston Road in Clarkston. Harris, R-Waterford, looks forward to meeting directly with people in the community to discuss his work in the state Capitol and offer assistance with state government issues.
No appointment is necessary to attend office hours. Constituents can also share their thoughts or seek assistance by calling Harris’ office at 517-373-0828 or emailing MikeHarris@house.mi.gov.
Harris represents the 52nd House District, which includes the Lake Angelus, Clarkston, Independence Township, and portions of Springfield and Waterford townships.
“Michigan’s sentencing laws protect victims and ensure dangerous criminals face justice, but this radical upheaval would obliterate fair, firm sentences that judges carefully determined according to the law,” said Harris, R-Waterford.
“At the local departments dedicated to protecting our communities, officer shortages weaken public safety closest to home, but House Democrats rejected a bold plan to boost recruitment and retention — twice,” Harris said.
“Freeing the most heinous murderers from prison is the complete opposite of criminal justice,” said Harris. “This misguided legislation would undermine public safety by letting monsters who committed brutal and horrifying murders back in our communities after a mere 10 years.”
